{"id":190,"date":"2021-05-02T10:43:05","date_gmt":"2021-05-02T10:43:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.zebadger.com\/wp\/?p=190"},"modified":"2023-05-04T17:45:20","modified_gmt":"2023-05-04T17:45:20","slug":"recovering-from-a-wallet-transfer-mistake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.zebadger.com\/wp\/?p=190","title":{"rendered":"Recovering from a wallet transfer mistake"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>The mistake<\/h4>\n<p>You sent money from Binance to another wallet, but chose the wrong network.<\/p>\n<p>There are many options when transferring money around wallets and it&#8217;s quite tempting to choose the cheapest option, but that isn&#8217;t always right.\u00a0 This example is where someone sent some USDT from their Binance wallet to what they thought was their USDT Wallet using the Blockchain app.\u00a0 The user sent the money using Binance Smart Chain (BSC), but Blockchain.com do not support BSC.<\/p>\n<p>LUCKILY, the Blockchain app allows you to view your private keys and even more luckily BSC is just a copy of ETH, so those private keys can be imported into a wallet that does support BSC.<\/p>\n<h4>Step 1 : Confirm you can actually recover from your mistake.<\/h4>\n<p>This is a lot of messing around, so make sure that you meet the recovery criteria before messing around.<\/p>\n<p>You MUST meet both these conditions:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>You sent from Binance using BEP20 (BSC) to a ERC20 wallet.<\/li>\n<li>You have access to the private keys of the destination wallet (if not you might be able to raise a support request with your wallet provider).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4>Step 2 : Find your private key for your destination wallet<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Warning:<\/strong> Never give your private keys to anyone.\u00a0 Do not email them.\u00a0 Do not store them unencrypted on the internet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Examples of wallets where you can get to your private keys.<\/p>\n<h5>Blockchain Wallet (from Blockchain.com or the Blockchain app)<\/h5>\n<div class=\"h9e7qa53 l9j0dhe7 hpfvmrgz\">\n<div class=\"lzcic4wl\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"gridcell\" data-scope=\"messages_table\" data-recover=\"true\">\n<div class=\"ni8dbmo4 stjgntxs ii04i59q\" aria-owns=\"jsc_c_13f\" data-testid=\"outgoing_message\">\n<div class=\"l60d2q6s d1544ag0 sj5x9vvc tw6a2znq l9j0dhe7 ni8dbmo4 stjgntxs qlfml3jp inkptoze e72ty7fz qmr60zad jm1wdb64 qv66sw1b ljqsnud1 g6srhlxm odn2s2vf\">\n<ul>\n<li class=\"ljqsnud1\" dir=\"auto\">\u00a0Visit <span role=\"gridcell\"><a class=\"oajrlxb2 g5ia77u1 qu0x051f esr5mh6w e9989ue4 r7d6kgcz rq0escxv nhd2j8a9 nc684nl6 p7hjln8o kvgmc6g5 cxmmr5t8 oygrvhab hcukyx3x jb3vyjys rz4wbd8a qt6c0cv9 a8nywdso i1ao9s8h oo483o9r f1sip0of lzcic4wl ljqsnud1 gpro0wi8\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/login.blockchain.com\/?fbclid=IwAR2e_YzV5HuqEJD5mh60EF7XuU0IPvKup2XSybxTyqB4USxHYUvzts7cDk8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">https:\/\/login.blockchain.com\/<\/a><\/span> and login.<\/li>\n<li class=\"ljqsnud1\" dir=\"auto\">If you don&#8217;t know how, it&#8217;s really easy if you have a webcam on your PC\/Mac, just choose &#8220;Login my mobile&#8221; and on the mobile app, use the top right menu option &#8220;Log in to Web Wallet&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li class=\"ljqsnud1\" dir=\"auto\">On the blockchain website, the far right settings icon has the option of Wallets and Addresses, pick that.<\/li>\n<li class=\"ljqsnud1\" dir=\"auto\">Click the Ethereum button<\/li>\n<li class=\"ljqsnud1\" dir=\"auto\">Click View your Private Keys.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>Exodus Wallet<\/h5>\n<p>For Exodus wallet view this <a href=\"https:\/\/support.exodus.com\/article\/86-how-can-i-view-my-private-keys\">article<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h4>Step 3 : Install Metamask wallet<\/h4>\n<p>You can install this as a browser plug-in or Mobile app for <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/us\/app\/metamask\/id1438144202\">Apple<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=io.metamask\">Android<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Go through the set-up procedure, secure your recovery key and maybe view the tutorial.\u00a0 Note that the recovery key is only for the new wallet that Metamask creates for you when you install the app.<\/p>\n<h4>Step 4 : Import your private key into Metamask wallet<\/h4>\n<p>When viewing your wallet, click\/press the circle above &#8220;Account 1&#8221; that looks like it could be a profile picture.\u00a0 Choose &#8220;Import an Account&#8221; and paste your private key from Step 2 into it and then click &#8220;IMPORT&#8221;.<\/p>\n<h4>Step 5 : Add Binance Smart Chain network to Metamask wallet<\/h4>\n<p>Press\/click the menu button on the top left, press Settings, scroll down and pick &#8220;Networks&#8221;, choose &#8220;Add Network&#8221; and enter the following:<\/p>\n<pre>Network Name: Binance Smart Chain\r\nNew RPC URL: https:\/\/bsc-dataseed.binance.org\/\r\nChainID: 56\r\nSymbol: BNB\r\nBlock Explorer URL: https:\/\/bscscan.com<\/pre>\n<p>Then click Add.<\/p>\n<p>Note: To switch between Ethereum Network and Binance Smart Chain &#8211; just click the top of the app, where it says &#8220;Wallet&#8221;, you might need to scroll down to see the Binance Smart Chain.<\/p>\n<h4>Step 6 : Make sure Metamask is pointing the Network and Wallet<\/h4>\n<p>Make sure that you are now using the right Network and the imported wallet (Account 2)<\/p>\n<p>Click\/press the very top of the Metamask app where it says &#8220;Wallet Ethereum Main Network&#8221;.\u00a0 Scroll down and choose &#8220;Binance Smart Chain&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Click the menu button on the top left and click on &#8220;Account 1&#8221; and choose &#8220;Account 2&#8221;.<\/p>\n<h4>Step 7 : Add your missing coin to the BSC wallet on Metamask<\/h4>\n<p>At the bottom of the Metamask wallet, click &#8220;+ADD TOKENS&#8221;.\u00a0 Search for the token that you are missing (eg.
